Rita Nelson
Scoutmaster
The Nelsons joined the troop in May of 2004 and Rita has been an
Assistant Scoutmaster since that time. Active in their Cub Scout pack,
Rita came along with an energy level that none can surpass. It is hard
to describe Rita as a stay at home mom, because she always seems to be
on the road with school, extra-curricular and scouting activities. Rita
brings to the position of Scoutmaster the experience not only of
extensive camping with the troop, but also serving two years as our
Outdoor Chair. She has participated in the Summer Camp Mile Swim
every year she has camped with the troop.
Rita is an Order of the Arrow member and has completed the Wood Badge
adult training. In
May of 2008 Rita was awarded a Trailblazer Award for the Hightower
Trail District in recognition of her many hours and devotion to the
scouting program.
Assistant Scoutmasters are registered adults who are focused on rank
advancement for the scouts. For the ranks through First Class, only the
Scoutmaster and the ASM's can sign off on requirements in a scout's
handbook. It is the scout's responsibility to seek out one of us when
they are ready to demonstrate a skill, but we provide encouragement and
instruction for these skills.
Ray Callaway
Tenderfoot to First Class
Health Officer & Webmaster
This is a picture
from our "Bahamas Adventure" Seabase trip.
I've been with the troop since 1995 when I started as an Assistant
Scoutmaster.
I learned all of my outdoor
skills from John Schellack and Don Fuller. I've served as the
Scoutmaster two different times until my "day job" interferred.
I try to work with all scouts on the first aid advancements and
basic woodyard skills. I am a Brotherhood Member of the OA and
have received the Trailblazer Award, Scoutmaster Award of Merit,
and have completed Wood Badge.
I was a First Responder for the 1996
Summer Olympics and then became a Red Cross instructor for Standard First Aid, CPR, and
Wilderness and Remote First Aid. A
member of St. Bede's Episcopal church, I have served on the Vestry
and many church boards and special committees.
Currently I am in the Flower Guild, sing in the choir, and do odd jobs
like organ repair and helping with facility maintenance.
Jim
Cook
Orienteering - Map & Compass
Summer Camp Chair
Jim has
been an Assistant Scoutmaster since 1994 and completed his Scoutmaster
Fundamentals in March of 95. A Brotherhood member
of the Order of the Arrow since 2000, Jim's speciality is map
and compass work. But perhaps his most valuable assistance has been to
serve as the Summer Camp Chair. Jim takes care of all the registrations
and councils the scouts about their merit badge opportunities.
Jim has received the Trailblazer award, the Outstanding
Service Award and Eagle Scout Mentor. He is a member of First Baptist
Church of Atlanta and is employed by AT&T as a Sr. Systems Manager.
Don

attended the National Camp School program for Shooting Sports
and has been awarded the District Award of Merit. In 2002 he was
made a Vigil Member of the OA.

Peachtree DeKalb Airport.

Eric
Moen
Tenderfoot to First Class
Eric joined Troop 534 in March 2009 when his son crossed over from
Webelos. He served as a Tiger den leader while his son was in Cub
Scouts. As a boy, Eric earned the rank of Eagle Scout with Troop 18 in
Peoria, Illinois. With many fond memories of his Boy Scout experience,
he is excited to be back in the program as an Assistant Scoutmaster.
Eric completed Boy Scout Leader training
in October 2009.
Eric has been an R&D engineer with Heatcraft Refrigeration Products
for over 20 years. He enjoys history, camping, hiking and automotive
activities.

Chris
Fenwick
(Temporarily on Leave)
Chris has been a member of the troop since 1995
when he crossed over with the Arrow of Light award from Cub Scouts. He
is an Ordeal member of the Order of the Arrow and attained the rank of
Eagle in April 2002. Chris' Eagle Scout Project was the construction of
fenced in enclosures completed with picnic tables at Coralwood
Elementary off of Oak Grove Road. After graduating from Lakeside High
School in 2002 he left Georgia to study Marine Biology at Texas A&M
University. Chris spent about a year in Atlanta (2010-2011) and became an
Assistant Scoutmaster with the troop. He is now employed at the Dallas
Children's Aquarium (part of the Dallas Zoo). He is still registered with
the troop and hopes to camp with us when he is visiting in Atlanta.

Briarcliff
United
Methodist
Church,
Ted
has
devoted
years of service to youth not only in Boy
Scouts
but also as a teacher in DeKalb County. In recognition of this he was
recently awarded the Methodist Church's Cross and Flame Award.
Ted is an avid canoeist and was a leader on the troop's High Adventure
trip to Northern Tier where his crew completed the 50 Miler Award. He
has also received the Trailblazer Award, District Award of Merit and
the William D. Boyce Award.
Ted has is working closely with the leadership of Pack 534 as they are
building up membership.
Clay Reese
Committee Chair
Clay is actively involved in numerous civic and professional
activities;
serving as a board member and officer for the DeKalb Bar Association,
the Decatur-DeKalb YMCA, and A.R.T. Station, Inc. In his well-known
"spare-time", Clay volunteers as a youth baseball and youth soccer
coach. He came to Troop 534 when his son crossed over from St. Martin’s
Episcopal Cub Scout Pack where he was the den leader for the Tiger Den
and Webelos Den. He and his wife Susan have two children. Clay
has been an Assistant Scoutmaster with the troop and one of the Summer
Camp Leaders.
He has recently transitioned to the post of Committee Chair.
Brian Stewart
Advancement Chairman
Brian
never wants to be in a
picture by himself. He is happiest when he gets a chance to be
with the guys he has helped along the Path to Eagle. In 2011
Brian was awarded the District Award of Merit. This award was in
recognition
of the years that Brian has devoted to Scouting and his role as an
Advancement Chairman for our troop. Since he joined the troop in
September of 1998 he has coached over 20 scouts
along the path to Eagle and is continues to do so.
Pictured here with his son (far right) and four other
young men in the
same Patrol (Ben, Patrick, Dutch & Jameel) who all earned the rank
of Eagle, Brian probably has more Eagle Mentor pins than any adult in
the troop.
Brian is an inspector for Crawford & Company. His job takes
him around the Southeast and he enjoys it because he gets to be
outdoors.
